I Am Tampa Civic Pride Campaign


I am Tampa, Doing my Part!On June 2, 2004 neighborhood and community leaders joined Mayor Pam Iorio and Tampa City Council members for the kick off of a civic pride campaign developed to celebrate the people who do their part everyday to make Tampa great.

The kick-off event, held at the Tampa Convention Center, unveiled the theme “I am Tampa, doing my part!” The campaign includes a dozen different billboard messages throughout the city featuring people such as Sherry Genovar-Simons, Neighborhood Association Volunteer, Derrick Brooks of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Debbie Gil Mayor Iorio at the campaign kick-off.Leslie, the 2003 Teacher of the Year and Dave Andreychuk of the Tampa Bay Lightning. A song about Tampa was also released along with a television public service announcement.

“The most important asset of Tampa is the people,” said Mayor Iorio. “People who go the extra mile, people from all walks of life who, everyday, work to make this city great. They are police officers, firefighters, lifeguards, teachers, corporate executives, athletes, neighborhood leaders and solid waste collectors. They embody a spirit of hard work and a dedication to making Tampa – our community – a better place to live. This campaign is a celebration of all of those people – everyone who does their part to make Tampa better.”

The billboards, television PSA and music for the campaign were funded by corporate sponsors, including, Tampa Electric Company, Bank of Tampa, Ferman Motor Car Company and Tampa Steel Erecting Company.

The City of Tampa is the largest city in Hillsborough County, is the county seat and is the third most populous city in Florida. It is located on the west coast of Florida, approximately 200 miles northwest of Miami, 180 southwest of Jacksonville, and 20 miles northeast of St. Petersburg. The population of the City represents approximately one-third of the total population of Hillsborough County. Tampa's economy is founded on a diverse base that includes tourism, agriculture, construction, finance, health care, government, technology, and the port of Tampa. Contributing to the success of our community is the way businesses, City government, and citizens work together to make Tampa a better place to live.
