On December 3, 2003, senior staff of the City of Tampa, along with Mayor Pam Iorio, completed the administration’s first strategic planning retreat. The retreat marked the beginning of the City’s strategic planning process and culminated in the development of a vision for the City, a mission statement, organizational values and priorities. Over the course of a day and a half, twenty-six members of the senior staff, including department heads and administrators, agreed to establish
the strategic focus areas.
The vision for the Riverwalk project is to create a vibrant and interactive waterfront experience for residents and visitors that relfects the uniqueness and spirit of Tampa.
The Reclaimed Water project (formerly STAR - South Tampa Area Reclaimed Water) distributes highly treated wastewater from the Howard F. Curren Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant on Hooker's Point to residents and businesses in parts of South Tampa where it can be used to irrigate lawns and landscaping.
The City of Tampa Strategic Planning Process will become a cornerstone for the City's delivery of services and operations. Before we can allocate our available resources, we must first understand the needs of our community and develop a vision for our future. By looking ahead and determining our needs, we will establish a vision for what level of service we will provide, along with an understanding of what resources will be necessary to provide them.
