Tampa Awarded 1st Place for Second Consecutive Year in the 2003 Digital Cities Survey

Tampa received 1st Place in the 2003 Digital Cities Survey.

Tampa, Fla., Fort Wayne, Ind., and Roanoke, Va., are the most digital-savvy, cutting-edge cities in the nation, according to the 2003 Digital Cities Survey, an annual study conducted by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology (IT) in government and education. By winning the 2003 Digital Cities Survey in the 250,000+ population category, Tampa repeated in receiving this recognition. The annual survey examines how city governments have progressed in adopting and utilizing digital technologies to improve the delivery of services to their citizens.

Media Announcements

On December 11, the Center for Digital Government hosted a reception honoring the 2003 Digital Cities Survey winners. Individuals including Mayors, City Council Members and Chief Information Officers attended the reception at the Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, the host location for the 2003 National League of Cities Congress and Exposition.

Over 300 of the nation's cities participated in the survey, and cities were grouped into three categories based on population: More than 250,000, 125,000-250,000, and 75,000-125,000. The 2003 Digital Cities Survey was underwritten by Microsoft.
