Tampa Web Site Honored As Best In Nation

TAMPA - Two years after redesigning its Web site, Tampa has catapulted to the top of its field.

Mayor Dick Greco accepted an award Wednesday designating www.tampagov.net as the best local government Web site in the nation.

Cathilea Robinett, with the Center for Digital Government, described TampaGov as "heads and tails above the other Web sites we looked at."

'"It's laid out brilliantly for citizens," she said. "And it's the only site in the nation with a section for senior citizens. It has a great kids' page, too."

In the past two years, the city has added services that allow people to pay parking tickets and utility bills or file building permits over the Internet. People also can shop at the museum store, check crime statistics for their neighborhood and watch public meetings live.
