TAMPA - The city launched a redesigned online site Thursday, intended to improve government accessibility and trumpet Mayor Pam Iorio's goals for Tampa.
The www.tampagov.net site features a customer service center on its home page, where users can click and find such things as construction permit information and crime activity maps.
The customer service center allows users to ask questions or file complaints 24 hours a day. People can track their inquiries to see which city officials respond and how fast.
The city has been operating the service center, formerly called the message center, for months.
But it didn't feature that on Tampa's Web site until it worked out kinks in the program designed by city employees.
The redesigned site also features a more prominently displayed picture of the mayor and lists her ``five major strategic focus areas'' for the city.
Those goals are neighborhood investment, improved government efficiency, residential development downtown, economic development in ``most challenged'' areas such as east Tampa, and creating a ``city of the arts'' by developing arts attractions.
``It's very exciting to me,'' Iorio said.
``This is where I want to take the city.''
