6/6/12 Top Story | Tampa Bay Times: $7M Wells Fargo program to help Tampa home buyers
Tuesday Mayor Buckhorn and Wells Fargo announced NeighborhoodLIFT, a program designed to boost home ownership by providing $500 million in mortgage loans over the next five years to homebuyers in the City of Tampa. Prospective home buyers can learn more at a two-day event that will take place June 22 and 23 at the Tampa Convention Center where they may qualify for up to $15,000 in down payment assistance and/or home and renovation financing grants.

The program is citywide, but Buckhorn said he suggested that Wells Fargo target seven areas: east Tampa, South Seminole Heights, North Hyde Park, the west riverfront area, V.M. Ybor, Old West Tampa and Tampa Heights.

"This will help get us back to a point and a place where we once stood, where our housing programs were the envy of the nation," Buckhorn said. Read more

6/8/12 Tampa Tribune: Grant to aid future retail
A $400,000 Brownfield grant from the Environmental Protection Agency is going to help the City restore a key piece of land in downtown Tampa. The 1.5 acre site is located across from the Encore development. The grant will allow the city to clean up the land so that it can be redeveloped. Mayor Buckhorn has on hand to accept the grant from the EPA's regional administrator.

"It is a brick-by-brick process of rebuilding lives, but also restoring our city," Buckhorn said. "It starts here." Read more.

6/9/12 Tampa Tribune: Pumping new life in Hillsborough River
Mayor Buckhorn officially opened the new water pumping station in Sulphur Springs, which is located at the intersection of Nebraska Avenue and Sitka Street. The new improvements double the amount of water going to the Hillsborough River, enhancing water quality by providing a much needed freshwater zone downstream of the dam. The expansion of the pumping station also provided a canvas for a larger-than-life, full-building mural by artist John Gurbacs depicting the ecosystem of the Hillsborough River. Learn more.
