8/10/12 Top Story - Fox 13: Tampa bridges illuminated in time for RNC
Friday night, Downtown Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park was packed with spectators waiting to see the unveiling of Agua Luces, a permanent installation of lights on five of the downtown Tampa bridges. The Hillsborough River was also dotted by onlookers in boats. When Mayor Buckhorn flipped the switch, the Kennedy Boulevard Bridge, Selmon Expressway Bridge, Brorein Street Bridge, the Platt Street Bridge and the CSX Railroad Bridge were all washed in vibrant colors that cycled continuously. In addition to the main attraction, the crowd enjoyed a free showing of the Wizard of Oz and a selection of five different food trucks.

"This is not for the RNC!," Buckhorn told the huge crowd Friday night. "This is for us!"

8/12/12 Tampa Bay Times: Mayor Buckhorn named winner of the week in Florida politics

Mayor Buckhorn was selected as the Tampa Bay Times “Winner of the Week in Florida Politics”. He was chosen for his commitment to making the Republican National Convention a success for Tampa:

“We won't know whether the Tampa mayor is a real winner until the Republican National Convention winds down. But it says a lot about hizzoner that so many Republicans are raving about the enthusiasm and help they're receiving from this ardent Democrat.”

8/11/12 Tampa Tribune: Tampa's strong fiscal stewardship
Mayor Buckhorn officially presented his budget to Tampa City Council last Thursday. Not only did his proposal emphasize no layoffs or tax increases, it also positioned Tampa for success. While other cities are struggling with unfunded pension liabilities or even the threat of bankruptcy, Tampa’s financials are solid.

“So even while falling property values caused the city's property tax revenue to plummet from $166 million in 2007 to $115.2 million, Buckhorn still has managed to devise a responsible $804 million budget that covers basic needs while improving neighborhoods and infrastructure.

Executives looking for a community that runs a tight fiscal ship should be impressed by Tampa.”

8/11/12 Fox 13: Downtown buildings get rehabbed for RNC parties
Republican National Convention party planners and local property owners are rehabilitating what amounts to an entire city block: the old Kress, Woolworth and J.J. Newberry buildings. What does this mean for Tampa residents? Once the convention is over, these properties will be left in much better shape for the vision of future developers.

"From Bayshore Boulevard to the Kress Building, those are the kinds of legacy projects that this community will benefit from for a decade after this," Buckhorn said.
