Mayor Bob Buckhorn joins Related Group CEO and Chairman Jorge Perez to cut the
            ribbon on a piece of public art at Pierhouse, a new apartment complex in the Channel District.

"From the Desk of Mayor Buckhorn" is designed to give citizens greater insight into the Mayor's Office. Every week, Mayor Buckhorn will offer a snippet of what he's currently working on.

"Last week, the Port Authority negotiated a deal with the Irish bank who owned Channelside. In short, it broke the log jam, and I look forward to seeing how developers plan to activate the complex. In addition, we celebrated the completion of Pierhouse, Related Group's first project in Tampa, that will bring more than 500 new residents into our urban core. It’s a new day in the Channel District."
           
           
           

9/10: 83 Degrees Media: City Of Tampa Launches Neighborhood University
The inaugural class of Mayor Buckhorn’s Neighborhood University is off to a great start. Participants are learning leadership skills, how to organize a neighborhood association or group, and about the city administration.

9/10: ABC Action News: Settlement reached in Channelside complex, Tampa Port Authority to buy it for $5.75M
The settlement will allow the Port Authority to be in control of Channelside. Mayor Buckhorn and other Port Authority board members are very excited about its potential.

9/11: Tampa Bay Times: Port to offer $5.75 million to buy Channelside retail complex
The Tampa Port Authority negotiated a deal with the Irish Bank Resolution Corp. to purchase Channelside complex for $5.75 million. Once the judge approves, the complex will be in the hands of the port, who can then determine its destiny.

9/12: Tampa Tribune Editorial: Channelside deal holds promise for troubled complex
The Tampa Tribune believes that the Port Authority “struck a good deal in every respect” and that a revitalized Channelside will help generate new development in downtown.
