Mayor Buckhorn was on hand for the grand opening of Metropolitan Ministries’ MiraclePlace and joined six little ones to break ground on a new chapel.
 
 

"From the Desk of Mayor Buckhorn" is designed to give citizens greater insight into the Mayor's Office. Every week, Mayor Buckhorn will offer a snippet of what he's currently working on.

"MiraclePlace is another amazing example of how our community looks out for one another. Because of their efforts and the donors locally who support Metropolitan Ministries throughout the year, hundreds of families will receive the assistance they need to be able to get back on their feet."

11/5: Tampa Bay Business Journal: EDC pushing 'swagger' as an ingredient of Tampa biz success
At the EDC’s annual meeting last week, the area’s new found sense of “swagger” was on full display, highlighting local wins including the expansion of HealthPlan Services, Synergy Health’s relocation to downtown Tampa, and first Copa Airlines flights from Tampa International Airport.

11/5: Tampa Bay Times: Metropolitan Ministries dedicates MiraclePlace transitional housing
Mayor Buckhorn joined Congresswoman Kathy Castor and staff from Metropolitan Ministries to open MiraclePlace, a new transitional facility that will be able to assist up to 200 families and 450 children each year.

11/6: Tampa Tribune: Tampa food truck rally marks tasty two years
Last Wednesday, the first Wednesday of November, the Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta rolled into Lykes Gaslight Park and celebrated its two year anniversary. Dozens of trucks have come to the rally, feeding hundreds upon hundreds of hungry office workers and serving up some amazing food.
 
11/8: Tampa Tribune: Obama housing secretary visits Tampa project, promotes healthcare law

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan visited Tampa on Friday, touring the Encore development, which received $30 million in Neighborhood Choice grant funding, and speaking about the Affordable Care Act. Mayor Buckhorn pointed out that almost 100,000 residents within the City of Tampa don’t have health insurance and because of that, lack any economic security.
