"From the Desk of Mayor Buckhorn" is designed to give citizens greater insight into the Mayor's Office. Every week, Mayor Buckhorn will offer a snippet of what he's currently working on.

"As we celebrate Thanksgiving with good friends and loved ones, I can't help but note that there is so much to be thankful for in our community -the creation of new parks throughout the city, continued reduction in crime, new developments, and most importantly, a newfound sense of optimism. I am so thankful for all our blessings - big and small - as a community."

Tampa is the most pro-equality big city in the state of Florida, according to a new report out from the Human Rights Council. Tampa jumped from its third place ranking thanks to progress in areas of law enforcement as well as policy and political leadership.

Tampa's economy is projected to grow by 3.2% in 2013, making the Tampa area the fastest growing metropolitan area in Florida.

Mayor Buckhorn joined Human Rights Campaign's President Chad Griffin and Equality Florida CEO Nadine Smith to pen an op-ed about Tampa's progress on equality issues. As they write, an open city is also open for business.
