Mayor Buckhorn got a behind the scenes tour from Gary Prosterman of Development Services Group, who is the man behind the Classic Federal Courthouse's transformation into a boutique hotel.

"From the Desk of Mayor Buckhorn" is designed to give citizens greater insight into the Mayor's Office. Every week, Mayor Buckhorn will offer a snippet of what he's currently working on.

"From the transformation of the Classic Federal Courthouse to the renewed interest in historic Ybor, the excitement about Tampa is palpable. Our partners in the private sector understand that, and that's why they are choosing to invest in our city."

1/7: Tampa Bay Times: Well-known developers seek to build hotel, apartments in Ybor City
This week, the City of Tampa announced that it had received proposals to redevelop and activate two vacant parcels of city-owned land in historic Ybor City. The goal is to transform one into a hotel and the other into a multi-family residence.

1/8: Tampa Bay Times: Tampa mayor gets first look at transformation of old courthouse into new hotel
Development Services Group’s Gary Prosterman gave Mayor Bob Buckhorn a sneak peek at construction happening at the Classic Federal Courthouse. By summer, this Tampa landmark will reopen its doors as Le Meridien boutique hotel.
1/8: Tampa Tribune: Old Courthouse may be transformed to Le Meridien by June

The courtrooms will be transformed into ballrooms for parties and guest rooms. Everything, including an old witness box, will have a new place in the transformed building.

1/10: Tampa Bay Business Journal: SkyHouse breaks ground, gets a jump on other Channel District projects
Construction is about to begin on a new residential tower in downtown's Channel District. Novare Group's SkyHouse Channelside should be open in the first quarter of 2015.

1/11: Tampa Tribune: Groups rally against child sex slavery
Mayor Buckhorn joined the Junior League of Tampa and 90 other local organizations who are part of the Abolish Movement, a campaign to fight human trafficking. He declared January as Human Trafficking Awareness month in the City of Tampa.

1/12: Tampa Tribune: New York feeding Florida growth
Florida will soon be - if it's not already - the third most-populous state in the nation, surpassing New York. Mayor Buckhorn's mission is to bring young entrepreneurs and others to Tampa and to create the environment they want to move to.
