"From the Desk of Mayor Buckhorn" is designed to give citizens greater insight into the Mayor's Office. Every week, Mayor Buckhorn will offer a snippet of what he's currently working on.

"The new master plan for the West River area involves anchoring Main St. retail; connecting the River to the Bay by restoring the street grid; creating a waterfront town square; linking local schools to the neighborhood as part of a larger civic and educational campus; and, supporting the neighborhood through mixed-income housing with walkable streets and amenities. The bottom line is that great things are happening for all of us, and I need you to continue to stay engaged as we move forward and make progress."

1/28: Tampa Tribune: Citations, merger speed enforcement of Tampa codes
Since taking office in 2011, Mayor Buckhorn has pressed Neighborhood Empowerment to aggressively enforce Tampa's codes, particularly asking inspectors to utilize the civil citation process. The result is that more issues are being rectified by property owners, saving the City time and money and keeping our neighborhoods free of blight.

1/29: Tampa Bay Times: Tampa officials unveil draft plan to redevelop area west of Hillsborough River
The City of Tampa, in partnership with the Tampa Housing Authority, unveiled an ambitious plan to transform the West River area, including restoring the street grid, connecting the River to the Bay, and supporting the neighborhood with mixed income housing, walkable streets and amenities. 1/29: My Fox Tampa Bay: Buckhorn positive about West Tampa project
The West River plan may be ambitious, but Mayor Buckhorn is not one for "pipe dreams." Neighborhood leaders are optimistic about the plan, too.
