City Receives Over $2 Million In Monthly Online Payments

Reflecting the continuing growth in popularity of the City's ecommerce services, the City of Tampa has passed the two million dollar milestone in payments received online for a single month.  For the month of July 2008, the City received $2,110,818 in combined online payments for business tax receipts, construction express permits, monthly parking permits, museum memberships, parking tickets, police reports and utility payments.

Mayor's Youth Corps Recruiting the Class of 2009

Applications for the Class of 2009 Mayor’s Youth Corps will be available in school guidance offices beginning September 8.

Applications will be accepted from students in grades 9, 10 and 11 who attend a public or private high school located within the city limits of Tampa. Applications are due by October 24, 2008. Youth Corps activities include team building, leadership development, community service, open forums with the Mayor, and the production of a monthly youth-focused television show, From The Corps, that airs on CTTV Bright House Channel 615 and Verizon Fios Channel 15.

Walk with Mayor Iorio on October 18

Mayor Iorio wants to Keep Tampa Fit and she’s encouraging people to meet her on Saturday, October 18 at Al Lopez Park for a fitness walk. The Mayor will walk four miles, but people are encouraged to do as much or as little as they can. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the Walk at 7:30 a.m.
All registered walkers receive a Walking with the Mayor T-shirt. To register, download the Participant Authorization Form
After the walk there will be free health screenings and information will be available regarding resources in the community to help people live healthier lives.

Tampa has over 60 miles of walking, jogging, skating, and biking paths trails that provide abundant recreational and fitness opportunities.  For more information visit the Tampa Parks and Recreation Department on the TampaGov web site.

28th Annual Tampa Bay Senior Games

Let the Games Begin - Register Now for the 28th Annual Tampa Bay Senior Games

Tampa Bay Senior Games takes place October 6 - 17, 2008 for men and women 50 years and older. There are 30 Olympic-style events for people of all skill and ability levels. Athletic events include tennis, softball throw, basketball free throw, table tennis, bowling, running events, and swimming. Non-athletic events include a hobby show, talent show, dominoes, pinochle, billiards, dance, and baking contest.

The $15 registration fee includes unlimited participation in events, a T-shirt and tickets to the Opening Ceremony Luncheon and the Awards Banquet. Download the Registration Booklet and Entry Form

Tampa Ranks in Top 25 Arts Destinations on American Style Readers' List - City honored for its focus on arts tourism and its commitment to arts organizations

Tampa, Florida captured spot 23 on American Style magazine’s Top 25 Arts Destination readers’ poll for mid-sized cities (population between 100,000 and 499,000). The eleventh annual poll allowed readers to vote for their favorite arts destinations based on city size and this is the fourth year in a row Tampa makes the list. In 2003 and 2004, Tampa and the city of St. Petersburg made the list as a region.

The publication noted that Tampa was recommended by its readers “as a top destination for collectors and travelers who love art galleries, museums and festivals.”

American Style, published bi-monthly, is a national arts lifestyle magazine featuring articles on arts travel and events, galleries and contemporary artists. The magazine was first published in 1995. Complete results of the annual reader’s poll are available on


Freedom Playground Clean-Up Day

Now that Freedom Playground is officially open, we will be having monthly clean-up days the Second Sunday of each month. Please call (813) 254-3804 if you are interested. Children are welcome. Bring work gloves, rakes, shovels and small gardening tools. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Freedom Playground is located at 1700 N. MacDill Ave.
