Youth Corps Class of 2008 Serves Those in Need of Mobility Mayor's Youth Corps Class of 2008 Serves Those in Need of Mobility

Every 20 seconds a land mine kills or maims someone. In addition to the injuries inflicted, many millions of other people are born each year without the use of their legs due to disease or injury at birth.

Ten members of the Mayor's Youth Corps worked for Tampa PET constructing hand-cranked wheelchairs that use pneumatic tires for use on grass or dirt areas.

Members of the Mayor's Youth Corps worked on a variety of tasks to make PETS. They learned to use table saws, drill presses, power screwdrivers and how to disassemble and pack the PETs for shipping.

In addition to the vehicle, each package contains clothing for men, women and children, toys, and a variety of other useful items we take for granted that are practically non-existent in third world countries.

For more information about the local PET project please visit www.tampapet.com or call Rebecca Heimstead, Youth Corps Coordinator, at (813) 274-5909.
