Super Bowl Security Planning
When fans head out to the Super Bowl in Tampa they can go without any worries about their safety and security because the Tampa Police Department began planning for game day and its festivities more than two years ago. The Incident Commander for the Super Bowl, Major John Bennett believes, “the level of cooperation we’ve had from local, state and federal agencies is unprecedented. It is this unified approach that will keep our citizens and visitors safe during Super bowl XLIII.”

Citizen’s Academy
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be in a high-speed pursuit? Ever wondered what being “tased” actually felt like? Would you like to experience a shoot or not shoot situation from an officer’s eyes? These are just a few of many experiences that 30 Tampa citizens were recently given during this year’s Citizen’s Police Academy. During the 8 week course these brave “recruits” were given a taste of the rigorous training that prepare the Tampa Police officers for their daily duties of protecting and serving the citizens of our city.

Operation “Roll Call”
The Tampa Police Department is taking its roll calls to the community. Now, officers have a new opportunity to talk to neighbors about crime trends and possible solutions. Citizens have embraced this new way of getting to know the officers who patrol their neighborhoods. Residents and businesses have hosted dozens of the weekly roll calls on their front porches, back yards, driveways or parking lots.
