Water Wisely "Tip of the Week" #29

Tip #29: Install a rain sensor on your irrigation system or check to make sure your rain sensor is working properly. Irrigation systems are required by state law and local code to have a properly functioning rain sensor. Tampa Water customers can request a FREE rain sensor online at TampaGov.net/SaveWater or by calling (813) 274-8121.



City of Tampa Water Department Gets Stimulus Funding

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recently approved funding for several important improvement projects in the city of Tampa. The funding awarded consists of a $23 million low-interest loan and a $2.5 million grant, courtesy of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"The Mayor's Hour" Takes a Behind-the-Scenes Look at Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park

The expanded green space of Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park and an extension to the Tampa Riverwalk bring new connectivity to downtown Tampa and the Channel District. This month on “The Mayor’s Hour,” Mayor Pam Iorio and 970 Radio Personality Jack Harris highlight many of the new features of this family friendly downtown recreation area.

“The Mayor’s Hour” can be viewed on CTTV, Channel 15 on Verizon FiOS and Channel 615 on Bright House Networks. The show debuts on Monday, June 8th at 7pm. Replay times for “The Mayor’s Hour” are Sundays at 1pm, Mondays at 7pm, Tuesdays at noon, Wednesdays at 9pm, Fridays at 3pm and Saturdays at noon.

Tampa City Council Lifts Sprinkler Ban

Automatic lawn sprinkling is permitted once a week. Homeowners with addresses ending in even numbers may water on Tuesdays; homeowners with addresses ending in odd numbers may water on Sundays. All sprinkler watering must be completed between midnight and 4 a.m. Watering by hose is allowed on the same days, between either 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. or 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Forecasters say there is a 70 percent chance of having nine to 14 named storms, of which four to seven could become hurricanes, including one to three major hurricanes. “Get Ready Tampa” has three main guiding principles:

  • Assemble a Disaster Supply Kit

  • Develop a Household Disaster Plan

 

Riverwalk

Riverwalk Update

The Tampa Riverwalk is a project that will create a 15-foot walkway and bike path along the east banks of the Hillsborough River and the Garrison Channel. The pedestrian friendly walkway will be 2.2 miles and will integrate the various activities and destinations found in the downtown area by linking them with an attractive promenade with vibrant public art.
