TPD Gang Suppression Unit

The Gang Suppression Unit is responsible for conducting investigations of gang related crime and the collection of intelligence for both criminal street gangs and outlaw motorcycle gangs. The Tampa Police Department Gang Suppression Unit is an active member of various partnerships targeting gangs such as United States Project Safe Neighborhoods and the Florida Attorney General's Gang Reduction Task Force. The unit made 159 arrests and conducted seven covert operations in 2008.


TampaGov Mapping Services

The Maps and Directions section of the City's website points you to several comprehensive, map-based services that allow you to view many points of interest (i.e. schools, garbage pick-up and neighborhood information) around a specific address, like your home, or view city-wide information, like the number of police calls for service that have occurred over the last hour.

TPD Launches Interactive
Gangs Website

The Tampa Police Department has launched a new interactive, gang-prevention website. The website, www.TampaBayGangs.com, is available in English and Spanish and focuses on children 10 to 16 years old.

CTTV Wins Two National Awards


City of Tampa Television (CTTV) recently won two first place Hometown Video Festival awards from the Alliance for Community Media (ACM). From the Corps, a high-energy, teen-oriented program, won in the Magazine Shows - Youth category. Ybor Flavors, a festive show that highlights the tradition, culture and activity in one of Tampa's most colorful neighborhoods, won in the Entertainment Talk Show category.

 

The New Tampa Museum of Art

The new Tampa Museum of Art is under construction in downtown Tampa's Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and is slated to open Februrary 5, 2010 with an feature exhibit of the works from Henri Matisse. Designed by San Francisco architect Stanley Saitowitz, the building will feature a shimmering pierced aluminum exterior, and state-of-the-art gallery spaces with innovative translucent ceilings and polished stone floors. Lights on Tampa Recognition by Americans for the Arts

Lights On Tampa's projection Revamp Ft. Brooke by German artist team Casa Magica, was selected as one of the best public art works in the United States by Americans for the Arts.

A total of 40 works were recognized at the 2009 Americans for the Arts annual convention held in Seattle in June. The works were chosen from more than 300 entries across the country. Americans for the Arts is the leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America.
