Monthly Meeting Update
The monthly training meeting for October will be a re-entry refresher offered by Sgt. Ubinas. Training will begin at 7:00 p.m. on October 8, 2009 at Tampa Fire Rescue Training Academy.
AWR 160 - WMD Standardized Awareness Training
This course is scheduled for Oct. 17, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Oldsmar Library located at 400 St. Petersburg Drive E, Oldsmar FL 34677. Members of all area CERTs are welcome to attend but we must have a head count by October 8, 2009.

AWR 160 – WMD Standardized Awareness
Cost: $0.00 Class Length: 8 hours
This WMD awareness-level training course is an eight-hour training program that provides emergency responders with awareness-level instruction on recognition, avoidance, isolation, and notification techniques in a weapons of mass destruction (WMD) environment. The course covers prevention and deterrence and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) hazards. Awareness level training provides emergency responders with a basic understanding of how to respond to a terrorism incident. DHS has mandated this course (or documented equivalent) as a baseline for training for the following disciplines:
• Law Enforcement
• Emergency Medical Services
• Emergency Management Agency
• Fire Service
• Hazardous Material (HazMat)
• Public Works
• Governmental Administrative
• Public Safety Communications
• Health Care
• Public Health
Basic CERT Training Class Offered in Spanish
There will be a basic CERT training class presented in Spanish starting on Tuesday, October 13 and running through Tuesday October 27, 2009. The class will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and one Saturday, with dates and hours as listed below, at the Tampa Fire Rescue training center (116 S 34th Street, Tampa FL, 33605).
Week 1: Tuesday 10/13 (6:30pm - 9:30pm) and Thursday 10/15 (6:30pm - 9:30pm)
Week 2: Tuesday 10/20 (6:30pm - 9:30pm), Thursday 10/22 (6:30pm - 9:30pm), and Saturday 10/24 (8:30am - 4:30pm)
Week 3: Tuesday 10/27 (6:30pm - 9:30pm)
The purpose of the course is to provide citizens with the basic skills needed during a major disaster. This training will allow graduates to respond to the immediate needs of their community in the aftermath of a major disaster - the time when emergency services may not be immediately available.
To register for this class, please fill out our registration form, including your name as you would like it to appear on your CERT certificate and a daytime contact phone number.
All training materials will be provided free of charge. Please arrive 15-20 minutes early the first day in order to fill out the necessary paperwork. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
