Does your landscape have what it takes to be a 2010 Community Water-Wise Award winner? For more than a decade, the Tampa Water Department has partnered with the program sponsors, Tampa Bay Water and local county Extension Offices' Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Programs, to promote water conservation and recognize those individuals or groups who have created attractive, water-efficient landscapes.

The Community Water-Wise Awards has categories for residential and commercial properties, along with builders, schools and government sites. Fill out an application before June 30 and tell the judges about your potentially award-winning landscape.

Do You Know Your Day?
On March 14, watering days for locations inside Tampa City limits changed. The following once-a-week schedule is in effect for all water sources, except reclaimed water, through
June 30, 2010:
  • Addresses ending in 0 or 1 - Monday
  • Addresses ending in 2 or 3 - Tuesday
  • Addresses ending in 4 or 5 - Wednesday
  • Addresses ending in 6 or 7 - Thursday
  • Addresses ending in 8 or 9, or no address - Friday
Permitted Hours: Once between 12:01 a.m. and 8 a.m. OR 6 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. on designated day.
Regional water supply conditions are reviewed monthly by the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Changes by the District to irrigation rules will determine if you can irrigate once or twice per week. Ongoing changes in local and regional water supply conditions result in changes in water use restrictions.
Other water use restrictions inside Tampa City limits include different days and times for low volume irrigation/hand watering, permitted irrigation hours for properties larger than two acres, irrigation allowances for new plant materials, vehicle washing, pressure washing, and aesthetic/recreational uses of water. Make Your Irrigation System Work For Youadjusting irrigation head
Some people have outdoor irrigation systems that are improperly designed, programmed, or maintained. Most people do not intentionally over-water or design their system to use water inefficiently. They simply do not know that a problem exists or how to fix it. The Tampa Water Department wants to assist our customers achieve healthy lawns and landscapes while increasing water efficiency.

If you are a Tampa Water Department customer with a functioning in-ground irrigation system you may be eligible to request a free on-site Sensible Sprinkling Evaluation by our certified landscape irrigation auditor to evaluate the efficiency of your irrigation system. After the evaluation we will provide you a report on how to improve the efficiency of your system and irrigate your lawn and landscape appropriately.
