Gasparilla
, an annual Tampa tradition since 1904, was inspired by the fictional pirate Jose Gaspar who terrorized Florida’s coastal waters in the early 19th century. Every January, the unruly plunderers take over the City of Tampa and storm Bayshore Boulevard as the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. Gasparilla will be held this year on Saturday, January 28

In preparation for the 2006 Annual Gasparilla Invasion and Pirate Fest, members of Ye Mystic Krewe "kidnaped" the mayor from city hall, demanding the key to the city. This annual event kicks off the invasion and parade scheduled for January 28, which will again draw hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors to downtown Tampa. |
