Mayor Buckhorn kicked off the Redbull Flugtag ceremonies Saturday morning by officially proclaiming "Redbull Flugtag Day 2011." More than 125,000 spectators gathered on the shore and in boats to watch the wacky flying competition. Tampa, the only US city selected for the event this year, also hosted Flugtag in 2008.   10/7/11 Top Story: Urban Land Institute Advisory Services Panel to visit Tampa
  The Urban Land Institute (ULI) will be conducting an Advisory Services Panel in Tampa October 9 to 14. The panel is composed of economic development, land use, real estate development, and government operations experts from around the world who volunteer their time to help communities solve difficult development or related public policy problems. The City of Tampa has requested an ULI Panel to assist in developing a vision and master plan for the city’s urban core. Information on the public reception and presentation
  10/6/11 City of Tampa awarded Riverwalk Dock Construction Grant
  The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has awarded the City of Tampa a $398,000 grant to build floating docks behind the Tampa Bay History Center and Columbia Café in Garrison Channel. Construction calls for a walkway off the Riverwalk directly behind the Tampa Bay History Center just west of the Beneficial Drive Bridge. The walkway will connect to a 75-foot gangway leading to a docking structure that parallels the shoreline. Docking fees will be a pay-as-you-go system similar to the public docks behind the Tampa Convention Center. The docks will accommodate eight to nine boat tie ups and also serve as a water taxi stop.

  "I am pleased that Tampa City Council has come to a consensus and is adopting a panhandling ordinance. I am confident that the majority of the Council will ultimately do what is best for our community and I look forward to a day when our medians are panhandler free."

  The City of Tampa Mayor’s Hispanic Heritage Committee will host the 23rd Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Monday, October 17, 2011, at 11 a.m. The event will be held at the Tampa Theatre, located at 711 North Franklin Street. More information
