  11/2/11 Top Story: Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta Frenzy!
  Donning a red apron, Mayor Buckhorn stepped into the Wicked Wiches Food Truck to lend a hand as they worked to serve a steady stream of customers on Wednesday. The Mayor’s inaugural Food Truck Fiesta included 11 gourmet trucks offering everything from tacos to dessert. Food truck fanatics came from all over the bay area to sample the diverse cuisine in Gaslight Park. Many of the surrounding restaurants reported they were full from the overflow of foot traffic. The mayor is looking forward to hosting next month’s Fiesta on Wednesday, December 7 in downtown Tampa. More Details
  11/6/11 Mayor Buckhorn leads 5th Annual Bike Bash
  Mayor Buckhorn is making moves to ensure city streets are safer for bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers. Earlier this year, he rolled out the City’s bike-safety campaign. Additionally, the mayor announced that more “complete streets," which make provisions for all users, are in the works. Sunday, Mayor Buckhorn led a group of cyclists on a seven-mile ride through Flatwoods Park, the highlight of SWFTBUD’s 5th Annual Bike Bash. The annual event is held to help raise bike-safety awareness and this year attracted hundreds of cyclists as well as a variety of vendors and food trucks. Learn more about bike safety.
  11/4/11 Curtis Hixon Park named one of “America’s Best New Parks”
  The accolades continue to roll in for Curtis Hixon Park. The Atlantic, a magazine that focuses on politics, business, culture and technology, included our downtown’s centerpiece in their “America’s Best New Parks” article: “Completed earlier this year, Hixon Waterfront Park serves as a more natural connection between the water, downtown, and the new Children’s Museum and Tampa Art Museum. Fountains along N. Ashley Drive serve as a welcoming entry from the street and open, geometric green spaces make for a pleasant path.” Read more
  11/2/11 Tampa Parks and Recreation Department earns national accreditation
  The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department was recognized for excellence in the field of parks and recreation management by becoming the 100th agency in the country to currently hold a national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies. This distinguished accomplishment was announced at the National Recreation and Park Association 2011 Congress and Exposition.
