11/21/11 Top Story: Mayor Buckhorn returns from Israel tomorrow

In case you missed it, the Tampa Tribune’s editorial last weekend underscored the importance of Mayor Buckhorn’s trip to Israel to create jobs here in Tampa:

“Busy Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn is doing the city a favor to spend the next six days in Israel. No, it's not that we're better off without you, Mr. Mayor. Israel is an important business partner for the state and region. Much can be gained by strengthening the link between the two cultures and business worlds…

...About 45 Israeli companies have branches in Florida, and with a little encouragement, more are expected to come. Expansion here would be good for both Florida and Israel.

...The main purpose of the trip will be to tell the Florida story, with strong emphasis on the Tampa part of it. There is no state or region anywhere more serious about welcoming job-creating investment…”

11/18/11 Tampa receives $50 million federal allocation for convention

President Obama signed the appropriations bill, which the House and Senate passed last week, containing a $50 million allocation for security funding. Mayor Buckhorn released the following statement in response:

"I am very pleased that Tampa has secured the necessary funding for the upcoming 2012 Republican National Convention. I am confident that the $50 million allocation will allow us to host a convention that not only showcases Tampa, but is safe and enjoyable for everyone. This is our chance to tell Tampa's story to the world."

"Again, I want to thank Florida's entire congressional delegation, specifically Congresswoman Castor and Congressman Bilirakis, but especially Congressman Young, who led the way in securing this funding for Tampa. "

11/15/11 Buckhorn brings jobs message to new venue

Mayor Buckhorn has said time and time again that he is committed to telling Tampa’s story. The mayor has already leveraged platforms like Facebook and Twitter to bring his message to a wider audience. It should come as no surprise that he was the first Florida politician to engage on Quora, a new question-and-answer driven social media site. The mayor offered a substantial 683 word response to the question: “What are Florida leaders doing to create jobs?”
