  12/27/11 Top Story - St. Petersburg Times: Two-thirds in poll give Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn average or better ratings
  In the first poll since Mayor Buckhorn took office, 66 percent of Tampa residents responded that they approve of the job Mayor Buckhorn is doing. He won high marks for tackling crime (58 percent) as well his downtown redevelopment efforts (59 percent).

“Going forward, [Mayor Buckhorn] has no plans to change his goals, tone or emphasis. He said the poll's results are humbling, but also encouraging.’ What they tell me,’ he said, ‘is that the path we have chosen seems to be the right path.’"

  12/26/11 Tampa Tribune: GOP convention's afterglow may linger
  Next August, the 45,000 Republican National Convention visitors – including an estimated 15,000 members of the media – will provide Tampa with an opportunity for us to tell our story to the world. However, the convention's positive impact may continue even after the crowds leave:

“A review by the Denver 2008 host committee a year after the Democratic National Convention reported $133.5 million in direct economic impact.   12/23/11 St. Petersburg Times: Tampa's new economic competitiveness strategy nears completion
 

Mayor Buckhorn’s Economic Competitiveness Committee will soon be wrapping up. Recommendations from the committee will include changes to ordinances and codes, processes and technology, as well as staff and organization in an effort to make the City more business-friendly.

"When we come out of this, I think folks will see a very different attitude, a very different culture, a very different process," said Mayor Buckhorn. Read more

  12/21/11 Tampa Tribune: Tampa choosing who will turn Waterworks into restaurant
  Mayor Buckhorn will soon be announcing the new tenant that will be revamping the historic Waterworks Building. Backers of Ellas’s American Folks Art Café, the Columbia Restaurant, Straz Center for the Performing Arts, and Waterworks Enterprises have all submitted proposals to transform the site, located on the Hillsborough River in Tampa Heights.

"This is a fantastic site," Buckhorn said Tuesday. "There are boat slips, a park, a beautiful view. There's a real opportunity here. You could have festivals, food truck rallies, movies, lots of things." Read more
