  1/9/12 Top Story | Tampa Bay Times: Bringing a Tampa landmark back into public use
  Thursday, Mayor Buckhorn announced the selection of Tampa Hotel Partners, LLC to redevelop downtown’s classic federal courthouse building. Today’s Tampa Bay Times editorial highlights the benefits of this public-private partnership:

“Tampa has few architectural gems like the historic federal courthouse. So it's encouraging that Mayor Bob Buckhorn has chosen an apparently strong bid to remake the shuttered building as a boutique hotel. Buckhorn still needs to negotiate a deal with the development team. But this is a good opportunity for the city to make some money, liven up north downtown and return a local landmark to public use.” Read the full editorial

  1/7/12 Tampa Tribune: Raiders of the reclaimed water
  Representative Dana Young has proposed a bill that would ensure the City of Tampa maintains control of its reclaimed water. This is good news for Tampans looking to utilize more reclaimed water for irrigation. Currently, 40% of the average household’s water use goes toward maintaining a lawn. If the bill passes, the City will be able to focus on getting reclaimed water to its customers without the threat of outside interference. "This will give the predictability and certainty needed to invest in such systems," said Representative Young. Read more.

We’ve featured numerous articles about the millions expected to flow into Tampa for the Republican National Convention this August. If you are a small business owner, you may have been wondering how you can get involved. The 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee will be hosting an educational forum to help local business owners navigate the guidelines and registration process to participate in the Host Committee’s Small Business Network.   1/4/12 Tampa Tribune: Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta completes a culinary hat-trick
 

Even though the temperature dipped down into the 40s, the Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta still attracted hundreds of hungry lunch goers to Lykes Gaslight Square Park. Tribune reporter Jeff Houck sampled several unique dishes featured on the menu. You can read his entertaining review of the Sesame Ginger meatballs, the “Buckhorn” hotdog, and more in his blog, The Stew.

The next Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta will be Wednesday, February 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lykes Gaslight Square Park.
