  Downtown’s Channel District is bustling with new businesses. Mayor Buckhorn was on hand to cut the ribbons for six new spots, using a Segway to travel between venues. The small businesses have brought 78 new jobs to downtown Tampa. They include a hair salon, three restaurants, a coffee shop, and an architectural design firm. Read more or check out the photo album.

  4/14/12 Tampa Bay Times: Bob Buckhorn signs Tampa law creating domestic partnership registry
  Mayor Buckhorn signed an ordinance introduced by Councilwoman Yolie Capin creating a domestic partner registry designed to give unmarried couples a sense of security. The ordinance will give couples the ability to see their partner in the hospital, make critical health care decisions, or take part in the education of their partner’s child.

"It will give a lot of people in this community some comfort knowing that in very, very critical situations that relationship will be respected," Buckhorn said just before signing the ordinance. "That is only treating people with the dignity that they deserve. Read more.

  4/13/12 Tampa Bay Business Journal: East Tampa attracts business mix
  East Tampa’s business community is also thriving. Buccaneer Beads selected East Tampa as a central location for its customers who come from all over the city. Large investments by Yummy House Chinese Bistro, Family Dollar, and the Tampa Family Health Center Clinic in the past year have given the area an economic boost. Infrastructure investments and the City’s façade grant improvement program have also helped to spur development. Read more.
