4/28/12 Top Story | Tampa Bay Times: For a better Tampa
From the Tampa Bay Times: Tampa's downtown has grown up in the last few years. New condos, museums and parks line the Hillsborough River. The city center is busier than ever. And there are moves under way to turn historic properties like the first water depot and the old Customs House into hotels and restaurants. But downtown still lacks some fundamentals. Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn has a chance to fill in the blanks with InVision Tampa, a yearlong listening tour he launched this month in which residents can propose ideas.

Mayor Buckhorn needs your input to map the best plan for Tampa's future. If you can’t make it to one of the neighborhood tours, you can still submit your ideas online. The InVision site guides you through the process to help you answer questions about how you feel about living in downtown neighborhoods or where the community should focus our redevelopment efforts in the next five years. You can also add to or vote on the ideas of others. Get started now.

4/27/12 Tampa Bay Times: Mural on edge of Ybor City to spruce up gritty stretch of Adamo Drive
Adamo Drive will soon be home to Florida’s largest mural. The side of an old warehouse will serve as the 12,600-square-foot canvass, giving commuters passing by a taste of Ybor City. Artist Michael Parker and a group of HCC students have gathered community input to help create the community oriented design.

"We've done a lot of the research and saw the process,'' said Cassandra Thomas, a 23-year-old art student who wants to work in art therapy. "There's a sense of pride to be part of something that's bigger than yourself. It's more than just a class for a lot of us.'" Read more.

4/26/12 ABC Action News: Cell provider spends millions making sure the Republican Convention doesn't crash
AT&T Wireless has made service upgrades in the Tampa Bay area in anticipation of the Republican National Convention. The improvements, which include 4G LTE service, 200 new WiFi spots, and 3 new cell sites, will continue to benefit Tampa long after the 50,000 convention goers leave. AT&T’s investment will also help ensure fewer dropped calls and faster downloads even with additional demand during the convention week. "This is a one week event, but a lifetime of improvements," said Buckhorn. Watch the report.
4/24/12 Tampa Tribune: Channel District gets firm footing in downtown Tampa
The momentum in downtown’s Channel District was evidenced by Mayor Buckhorn's marathon ribbon cutting. Six small business owners invested in the district by opening restaurants, an architectural design firm, a coffee shop, and a hair salon.

"There has never been a more exciting time in downtown's history than there is right now," he said. "Ten years from now, you will not recognize this place." Read more.
