  5/31/12 Top Story | Mayor Buckhorn to Host First Mayor's Hack-a-thon
  Mayor Bob Buckhorn will host the first City of Tampa Mayor's Hack-a-thon on June 22-24, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Tampa. The Mayor's Hack-a-thon gives coders, developers, problem-solvers, and designers the opportunity to create an internet-based application. Participants will be given exactly 48 hours to design and build their application, and can work alone or in teams of four or less. Tampa Bay WAVE, Tampa Bay Technology Forum, We Are Tampa Bay, Gazelle Labs and Absolute Mobile Solutions are sponsoring the event. HART and Tampa Downtown Partnership are partnering with the City of Tampa as hosts. Learn more at

  5/31/12 Tampa Bay Times: Tampa Bay leaders tout MacDill Air Force Base as home for new refueling tankers
  A bipartisan effort is underway to bring a fleet of new KC-46A aerial refueling tankers to MacDill Air Force Base. Mayor Buckhorn will join Rep. Kathy Castor, members of Tampa Bay's congressional delegation, and community leaders to convince Pentagon officials that MacDill is their best choice. MacDill Air Force base has a $2.87 billion dollar impact on the Tampa Bay economy. The tankers would bring an additional economic boost. Read more.


  5/31/12 WTVT: Part of I-275 named after Cpl. Mike Roberts
  Mayor Buckhorn joined Tampa Police, Rep. Shawn Harrison, Hillsborough County Commission Chair Ken Hagan, and Cindy Roberts to unveil the Corporal Michael Roberts Memorial Highway sign. The stretch of I-275 between the Livingston Avenue Bridge and the I-75 intersection has been officially renamed to honor the fallen Tampa Police officer. Read more.


  5/30/12 Tampa Tribune: GOP convention a boon to Ragan Park
  Ragan Park is the latest benefactor of dollars coming into Tampa for the Republican National Convention. Humana has teamed up with KaBOOM! as well as the VM Ybor Neighborhood association and the City of Tampa to construct a bigger, better playground in Ragan Park. Community meetings have already been held to engage children and adults from the community in the design process. The playground will be built by a team of volunteers on August 11, two weeks before the convention.

"A lot of corporations want to partner and leave behind legacy projects," Buckhorn said. "This will be a benefit to the city long after the convention is over." Learn more.
