The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, Office of Emergency Management is excited to share a terrific opportunity taking place in our community. The University of South Florida College of Public Health is hosting the 2013 RDSTF Region IV Professional and Volunteer Responder Integrated Training Summit on Saturday, May 18, 2013.
Hurricane Katrina was the largest natural disaster in the history of the United States, responsible for more deaths than any other hurricane in modern times. Baton Rouge, located approximately 55 miles northwest of New Orleans, was the lead city for evacuation of casualties out of New Orleans in the weeks following the storm. This presentation describes the impact that casualty surge out of New Orleans had on the city and the medical facilities of Baton Rouge. The lessons learned from this disaster are presented by Dr. Scott Norwood, former Director of Trauma Services at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, the only trauma facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
