The City of Tampa is currently accepting employment applications for the following classes of work. Applications must be received or postmarked by the designated closing date. Applications received or postmarked after the closing date will not be processed. Drug Testing is included in all pre-employment medical examinations.

If the job for which you are applying indicates a testing requirement with walk-in testing hours, your application will not be processed until you take the test.  Unless specified otherwise, testing is conducted at City Hall (315 East Kennedy Blvd), during the hours posted in the job description.  You may call Employment Services at 813/274-8911 to verify that you qualify to take the test.

Communications Technician I

Salary range: $13.56 - $19.27 an hour.The selected candidate will perform beginning-level communications work dispatching calls for police or fire service. Training will be provided in the various aspects of communications work. A high school or vocational school diploma; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required, in addition to keyboarding skills. Preference may be given to individuals with previous dispatching experience or individuals with bilingual skills (English/Spanish). Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. In addition, applicants must be willing and able to deal effectively and professionally with all types of people under very difficult circumstances, and be able to simultaneously handle a variety of tasks. Salary range: $62,587 - $93.849.60 a year. Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in building construction, engineering, architecture, or a related field; and five (5) years of experience in building construction, architecture or engineering work (to include) three (3) years experience in plans examination and ordinance administration and three (3) years of responsible supervisory experience plus demonstrated ability to interact with industry trade associations.
