POSITION PURPOSE: As Transportation Professional Engineer your role will be to perform highly professional engineering and supervisory work involving traffic engineering or transportation planning.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Transportation Professional Engineer is expected to: - Perform a variety of assignments in the administration and supervision of a major engineering function within the Transportation Division.
- Represent the City at policy level board meetings to further transportation and mass transit initiatives.
- Supervise and participate in the preparation of design plans, survey work, specifications and contract documents for a large variety of projects requiring contract bid.
- Supervise and administer planning and/or design of major engineering functions.
- Prepare cost estimates and makes recommendations for inclusion in annual departmental budget.
- Review and initiate approval of plans and specifications prepared by consulting engineering firms.
- Monitor field engineering construction work and conducts follow-up inspections.
- Exercise general supervision over professional, sub-professional, technical, and clerical personnel.
- Supervises master planning for the State Comprehensive Plan and infrastructure improvement.
- Make presentations to Transportation agencies, boards, committees, and at public meetings.
- Perform additional duties relating to the successful execution of this position.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: - Knowledge of principles and practices of the assigned area of engineering.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and municipal rules, regulations, and other pertinent documents.
- Knowledge of engineering developments and information related to assigned area.
- Knowledge of engineering and administrative management procedures, practices, and methods.
- The ability to supervise the work of personnel engaged in a variety of engineering assignments.
- The ability to analyze and interpret plans, specifications, contracts, and other technical materials and draw sound conclusions.
- The ability to organize in report form and present sound recommendations effectively, both orally and in writing.
- The ability to train others in assigned area.
- The ability to speak in public.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Transportation Engineering degree from an accredited university.
- Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Project Management preferred.
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible traffic/transportation engineering experience including five (5) years supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of FDOT Design standards, Florida Green Book, AASHTO Standards, including MUTCD.
- State of Florida Professional Engineer Registration.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of FHWA and FDOT Project development (PD&E) Requirements.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license.
