NATURE OF WORK: Performs multiple semi-skilled tasks at the Advanced Wastewater Treatment (AWT) Plant and the associated field pumping stations. Work is of more than average difficulty in the instrumentation and electrical area. Employees perform duties and assigned tasks in conformance with established procedures requiring the exercise of reasonable initiative and independent judgment. Troubleshoots complex problems in instrumentation, electrical control systems and telecommunication equipment, and networking systems. Many work activities involve hazardous materials, equipment and high voltages. Employees must comply with appropriate safety precautions at all times. Employee performs instrumentation and electrical work on flow meters, analyzers, chemical feeders, computer interface equipment, telephone equipment, pneumatic controls, radio equipment, analog and digital controllers. Acts as lead technician in the maintenance and repair of overhead and underground circuits (up to 13,200 volts), motors (up to 1500 hp), generators (up to 2910 kw), VFDs (600 and 4100 volts), switchgear (including protective relays), transformers (up to 3500 kva); tests and calibrates 4-20ma and 1-5 volt control loops. Uses tools such as a thermographic camera, surge tester, and micro-ohm meter. Employees perform tasks that include climbing ladders, working in confined spaces and lifting 50 pounds. Shift work is required.
QUALIFICATIONS: High-school graduation or GED with six (6) years of utility experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Selected employee will have one (1) year beyond the standard probationary period to achieve the qualifying skills sets.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: This is an industrial instrumentation technician position. Considerable experience in industrial instrumentation and electrical maintenance and repair. Must have the ability to troubleshoot, modify, locate, define and repair defects in instrumentation and electrical equipment. Ability to read, interpret and explain PID loop diagrams, PLC ladder logic, induction and synchronous motors VFDs, distribution systems, electrical prints and schematics. Must have working knowledge of computer systems and interface equipment. Knowledge of safe work practices for high voltage equipment, bulk hazardous chemicals, MSDS, lock-out-tag-out, procedures and other ISA, IEEE standards.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License. Possession of a valid CDL “B” within five months of employment.
EXAMINATION: Evaluation of training and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment medical examinations. Must pass federal background check for Port of Tampa Access.
