JOB PURPOSE: The Production Technician III is responsible for performing highly technical work involving the operation and production of potable drinking water at a State licensed drinking water production facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performing the technical duties of advanced water treatment activities.

  • Preparing daily operation reports required by regulatory agencies and Production management.

  • Operating auxiliary treatment plant, well field, or sludge processing, either remotely or with remote personnel.

  • Training lower-level personnel.

  • Coordinating with utility maintenance on shift.

  • Maintaining all files, logs, and records required for proper treatment and operation.

  • Maintaining operational parameters for water production chemistry, treatment, filtration, and sludge removal systems to insure that all specifications are in compliance with City standards and State and Federal regulations of SDWA.

  • Performing analytical testing.

  • Making adjustments to treatment as needed.

  • Performing analysis of filter samples.

  • Inspecting filters and pipe gallery.

  • Recording filter operational data.

  • Maintaining treatment chemical inventory control, ordering systems and storage levels; writes maintenance work orders.

  • Utilizing computer programs to input data to Hydro system.

  • Performing other related work.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of water treatment operation principles, practices, procedures, equipment, and treatment.

  • Knowledge of chemistry of ground and surface waters.

  • Knowledge of chemical handling and safety pertaining to potable water production.

  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and policies, and all federal and state regulatory requirements for water treatment parameters under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

  • Knowledge of chemical feed systems.

  • Knowledge of pumps, pumping mechanics and associated equipment.

  • Knowledge of practices, methods, materials and tools of the mechanical trades.

  • Knowledge of lead worker techniques.

  • Knowledge of chemical inventory control.

  • Ability to assume a lead capacity and direct the activities of lower level employees in the absence of the team leader.

  • Ability to conduct basic laboratory tests.

  • Ability to create and maintain appropriate records and prepare and submit clear and concise operational reports.

  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with employees and the general public.

  • Skill in working with equipment utilized in water treatment operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High-school graduation, supplemented by some college level coursework in biology, chemistry

or natural sciences, and course work in the theories and principles of water treatment operations, with three (3) years of related work experience including experience in a lead capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

Possession of a valid Florida Class "B" Drinking Water Operatorís License (prefer Class "A"). Ability to obtain a Class "A" License within 18 months of employment. Submit photocopy of License with application.)

  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 18 months, certification for Basic Mechanical Skills.
