SALARY RANGE:

(018) $13.29 - $18.91 an hour

PART-TIME: 30 HOURS

BENEFITS:

Option to join the City’s health and dental programs at full-cost; paid holidays, pension and tax-deferred compensation (457) plans, plus those benefits required by law such as social security and worker’s compensation.

JOB PURPOSE: The selected candidate will perform responsible tasks for special programs such as creative arts (theater, puppetry, music), fine arts, or special events working with diverse ages and skill levels, as well as, with the disabled or elderly at an assigned recreation center or art studio.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning, promoting, and conducting fine arts/theater/music programs.

  • Teaching and/or overseeing fine arts/music/theater programs.

  • Scheduling center/studio activities.

  • Performing clerical work and working with RecTrac program.

  • Performing custodial work.

  • Inspecting recreational facilities and equipment to ensure safety.

  • Directing visitors at center/studio.

  • Answering phones and provides information concerning programs and use of centers/studios.

  • Performing related work as required.

    DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of techniques, aids, and use and care of equipment applicable to a wide variety of recreation, and fine arts.

  • Knowledge of basic records keeping.

  • Knowledge of public relations.

  • Ability to coordinate and conduct recreational activities.

  • Ability to maintain records and compile reports.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups, and the general public.

  • Ability to stimulate participation and support for activities from target populations, municipal officials and outside agencies.

  • Ability to perform activities requiring light to moderate physical strength and endurance.

  • Skill in administering first aid and CPR.

  • Skill in care/maintenance of fine arts equipment; operating power tools.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Graduation from an accredited high school and completion of one year of college with coursework in recreation, recreation therapy, physical education, leisure services, art, theater, fine arts or a closely related field, with one (1) year experience in specialized recreation programs, preferably in an instructional or theatrical performance capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

    • Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License; some positions might require a Florida CDL, Class “C” with passenger endorsement within six (6) months of appointment.

    • Possession of Standard First Aid and CPR Certificates, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

    EXAMINATION:

    Evaluation of training and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
