(N29) $42,619.20 - $63,835.20 a year

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs a variety of physical, chemical and microbiological analyses of environmental samples and wastewaters.

  • Operates highly automated analytical instrumentation used for chemical analysis.

  • Conducts statistical analyses and evaluations of chemical and microbiological data.

  • Participates in analytical quality control activities in compliance with the laboratory quality assurance program.

  • Maintains and troubleshoots analytical instrumentation to meet method performance requirements.

  • Determines the cause of water pollutants using chemical and microbiological examinations.

  • Performs technical analyses for specialized projects and research studies.

  • Evaluates the effects of chemical additives for use at various stages of the advanced wastewater treatment plant process.

  • Maintains records and prepares reports on procedures and results of studies.

  • Researches various areas of wastewater treatment operations developing special techniques to improve or replace present methods of standard chemical analysis.

  • Participates in conducting validation studies of new analytical methods and technologies.

  • Completes assignments in laboratory core technical areas on weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule.

  • Performs related work as required.

    DESIRED KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

    Considerable knowledge of: principles, methods, practices, terminology, and procedures used in microbiological and chemical laboratory analysis; current equipment and scientific instruments used in the microbiological and chemical testing of wastewater and environmental samples; currently accepted quality assurance standards used in TNI accredited laboratories; water quality monitoring procedures; relevant federal, state, and local regulations and rules; occupational hazards, appropriate precautions, laboratory safety practices and protocols.

    Working knowledge of: environmental laboratory analytical instrumentation, data analysis software, LIMS.

    Ability to: apply scientific and technical knowledge appropriately and with professional judgment; complete and interpret scientific tests and examinations; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; prepare regulatory and user defined reports and SOPs; maintain, adjust and repair laboratory equipment; troubleshoot equipment and analyses; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, regulatory personnel, and the general public; train laboratory personnel; operate a lightweight motor vehicle.

    Skill in: the use of computer systems used to control analytical instrumentation; the operation and maintenance of laboratory testing and analysis equipment; database, word processing and reporting software.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelorís degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field and six (6) months experience in either field or laboratory work in aquatic biology, microbiological analysis or laboratory analysis; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    Analytical instrumentation experience.

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

    Possession of a valid Florida Driverís License.

    EXAMINATION:

    Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing. Must pass federal background check for Port of Tampa Access.
