District Fire Chief

SALARY RANGE:

(F10) $32.16 - $39.45 an hour     $80,271.36 - $98,467.20 a year

NATURE OF WORK:

On an assigned shift, exercises command over a group of firefighting companies within a fire district of the City; supervises routine administrative details in the district; supervises training activities in the district; related work. May be assigned to a forty-hour work week when working on a staff assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must currently be a Fire Captain to sit for the exam and be promoted:

Eligibility to Take Exam:

(a) Eleven (11) years with Tampa Fire Rescue, including two (2) years of experience as Captain.

(b) Successful completion of 60 college credits (30 of which must be in the areas of fire science/administration, emergency medical services, business or public administration, or industrial education with a major in fire science/administration). All candidates must submit a copy of their degree or transcript (with signature and/or seal affixed) prior to the closing date. This also applies to candidates who may have applied for past examinations. The transcript or diploma may be scanned and attached via upload to the online application or forwarded via email to careers@tampagov.net.

Eligibility For Promotion:

Twelve (12) years with Tampa Fire Rescue, including three (3) years of experience as Captain and must currently be a Fire Captain.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of valid Florida Driverís License and current State of Florida EMT-B certification.

NOTE: All of the required education for eligibility purposes must have been obtained prior to the close of business, September 13, 2014. Required experience must be obtained by the date of the test.

  • In-Basket 25%

  • Oral Presentation 25%

  • Tactical 25%

    Education and Seniority will be added after a score of 60% is obtained (Submit all applicable transcripts and certifications with application.)
