JOB CODE: 001115
JOB PURPOSE: The selected candidate will be responsible for leading and overseeing activities and enforcing safety rules at a municipal swimming facility or assisting in the overseeing of activities at a larger, more complex aquatic facility.
Organizes and coordinates programs and activities at an aquatics facility on a year round basis.
Oversees maintenance of swimming area, equipment and supplies when required; backwashes filters; maintains chemical balance and level of water.
Schedules, assigns, trains, oversees, and provides leadership to lower level employees in supervisor's absence.
Evaluates and identifies training needs to ensure that all safety rules are enforced.
Develops training classes, curriculum and lesson plans.
Enforces safety rules and ensures that other employees enforce rules to maintain safety of participants.
Monitors maintenance of all lifesaving equipment and first aid supplies.
Administers and oversees first aid and lifesaving techniques.
Responds immediately and takes responsibility in case of emergency.
Conducts periodic checks of all areas patrolled by lower level employees in order to ascertain that rules and regulations are being enforced.
Teaches swimming lessons for both adults and children.
Teaches CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding and Water Safety classes.
Organizes, promotes, and conducts a wide variety of aquatics activities and programs.
Participates in maintenance of records and preparation of reports.
Prepares attendance sheets, daily reports and special activities summaries.
Compiles accident reports.
Maintains payroll, inventory and supply ordering information.
Schedules mandatory re-certification of all employees to ensure compliance with standards.
Daily use of computers for record keeping, programming, and reports.
May work variable hours to include evenings, weekends and holidays depending on area to which assigned.
Performs related work as required.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of lifesaving principles and practices.
Knowledge of water safety techniques and use of rescue equipment.
Knowledge of first aid procedures.
Knowledge of water filtration equipment and operating procedures.
Knowledge of basic records keeping.
Ability to monitor the work of other employees.
Ability to instruct others in swimming and lifesaving methods.
Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially.
Ability to react quickly, calmly and rationally in emergencies.
Ability to maintain records and compile reports.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with the general public.
Ability to perform duties requiring physical strength and endurance.
Skill in RecTrac program use.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of lifesaving equipment.
Skill in swimming and lifesaving procedures.
Skill in lifeguard audits.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited high school and completion of two (2) years of college with three (3) years experience in aquatics or recreation operations, including maintenance and training tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Current nationally certified First Aid, CPR/AED
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES: Possession of:
Current Lifeguarding Certificates
Valid Florida driver's license.
EXAMINATION: Evaluation of training and experience.
