In June, 2003, a class action lawsuit was filed against the City of Tampa on behalf of attorneys that operated or maintained a law office in Tampa, challenging the constitutionality of Tampa’s business tax ordinance as applied to attorneys. The lawsuit also sought to require a refund of all business taxes paid by attorneys to the City of Tampa since June 10, 1999
