Tampa, FL February 22, 2013 - Mayor Buckhorn announced that the city will create a Neighborhood University program to empower existing community leaders.
"Sustaining strong, vibrant neighborhoods requires neighborhood leaders who are prepared and well versed in the community. Neighborhood University will identify and develop the next generation of Tampa's civic and community leaders," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. "The program will nurture people who are already the eyes and ears in their neighborhoods, and give them a louder voice and their neighborhoods a brighter future."
The Neighborhood University program will provide formal leadership training for the next generation of self-identified neighborhood and community leaders. It will be modeled after Leadership Tampa, and the idea is to educate future leaders about the City of Tampa and how it works as well as to connect them with other local stakeholders like nonprofits working within the city.
Mayor Buckhorn also announced that the city will start a training program for landlords which will work with and train landlords about city code requirements and effective property maintenance. Overall, it will help stabilize the rental community.
