VICTIM: Christian Love, B/M, DOB: 1/23/2010, 5502 North 43rd Street #206, Tampa

SUSPECT: Javaurian Saffold, B/M, DOB: 4/9/1985, 5502 North 43rd Street #206, Tampa

DETAILS:

After an extensive and thorough investigation, Tampa Police detectives arrested Javaurian Saffold on a murder warrant in connection with the death of his former girlfriend’s 2-year old boy. Saffold was alone with the child in the apartment he shared with his girlfriend on May 25, 2012. When the mother returned home, she discovered the child was lifeless and breathing shallow. Saffold told the child’s mother that the victim fell and struck his head on the tile floor while she was away. The child died at Tampa General Hospital on May 30, 2012 from severe brain trauma. The medical examiner determined that the injury was not consistent with a fall.

Detectives traveled to Pensacola, FL on May 21, 2013 to arrest Saffold for First Degree Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse. Saffold was taken into custody without incident during a meeting with his probation officer. He was serving probation for committing aggravated child abuse on an infant in 2008. Saffold is currently being held with no bond in the Escambia County jail. He will be extradited to the Hillsborough County jail in the near future.

During the initial investigation, Tampa Police officers charged the child’s mother, Candace Mitchell, with Aggravated Child Abuse on May 28, 2012 for failing to seek medical attention for the child in a timely manner. Mitchell waited nearly five hours to take her child to the hospital after finding him unresponsive.
