SUSPECT: Dwayne Terrell White, B/M, DOB: 9/7/1960, at large

DETAILS:

The suspect who posed as a police officer to extort money from three elderly East Tampa women is now behind bars. A tip led Tampa Police detectives to Georgia where they arrested Dwayne White with assistance from the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force. In three separate cases, White identified himself as a detective investigating fraud and urged the elderly women to cooperate with his “investigation.” He was able to scam 91-year-old Emma Lee Rice out of $1300. He stole $380 from 70-year-old Lola Orr. The suspect fled one victim’s house without any money when she called a family member to verify his story.
In April 2013, Tampa Police detectives identified White as the suspect in the fraud cases based on a fingerprint left at one of the scenes. They issued an arrest warrant for White who had given the name Rebrant Bryant to law enforcement in the past. During the extensive investigation, detectives received a tip that White was in the Georgia area. On May 29, 2013, the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force conducted a traffic stop on White’s gold Cadillac while he was travelling through Mitchell County in Georgia. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Mitchell County jail where he will await extradition back to Hillsborough County.

White is suspected of committing over two dozen similar scams in other states throughout the Northeast.

3. INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 4/3/2013 at 12:01 PM

VICTIM: 70-Year-Old B/F

SUSPECT: Rebrant Dwayne Bryant, B/M, DOB: 9/07/1960, At Large
CHARGES: Falsely Impersonating an Officer (2 Counts), Exploitation of the Elderly (2 counts) and Grand Theft (1 count)

DETAILS:

The Tampa Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect who posed as a law enforcement officer to extort money from elderly women. Detectives developed information which identified Rebrant Bryant as a suspect in three separate scams that took place in the East Tampa community. In all three cases, Bryant identified himself as a detective investigating fraud and urged the elderly women to cooperate with his “investigation.”

Bryant’s most recent scam took place on April 3, 2013. He told the 70-year-old victim that he was investigating her for possessing counterfeit money. The victim gave the suspect $380 so he could find out if the money was counterfeit. The suspect looked at the victim’s money and told her that it was fake. He talked her into riding with him to her banks so he could “inspect” the rest of her money. The suspect drove the victim to two banks, however, the woman refused to make any withdrawals. In a previous case that occurred on February 22, 2013, the suspect got away with $1300 from a 91-year-old woman. The suspect did not receive any money in the first reported case involving an 86-year-old woman.

The suspect has been arrested in eleven states for similar scams and drug charges. The states include; Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Maryland and Wisconsin.

Tampa Police detectives believe the suspect may have victimized additional individuals. Anyone who has made contact with Bryant recently or knows his whereabouts is asked to call the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130.
