City of Tampa Update #2 - Tropical Storm Andrea
 
Tampa, FL June 6, 2013 - High tide for Hillsborough and Tampa Bay is at 12:48 p.m. this afternoon with low tide at 8:57 p.m. tonight.

Flooding continues to result in road closures and traffic detours. Please use extreme caution when driving on local streets, and residents should report all flooding issues by calling (813) 274-3101.

Northbound Bayshore Boulevard is now closed between Bay to Bay and Platt Street. Southbound Bayshore remains open. There is a high likelihood that Bayshore will continue to be closed due to high water throughout the afternoon and into the evening commuting period.

Parks Closures:

There are no parks closures to report at this time.

After School Program Update:

City of Tampa after school programs will proceed as scheduled.

Storm Debris

Storm debris disposal options available to City of Tampa residents are as follows:

Curbside Pick-up: City of Tampa residents may place storm debris at the curbside for collection. Debris should be placed away from obstructions such as mailboxes, parked vehicles, fences, water meters, etc.

Schedule Pick-up: Residential customers wishing to schedule storm debris pickups are encouraged to call the Utilities Consolidated Call Center at (813) 274-8811, or contact the Department of Solid Waste and Environmental Program Management online via the customer service request center at http://www.tampagov.net/appl_customer_service_center/form.asp?strServiceID=74/.

McKay Bay Transfer Station: With a current City of Tampa utility bill and driver’s license, residents may drop-off brush and large bulky items free of charge.

Hours of Operation:

- Friday: 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- Sunday: Closed


Sandbags

Sandbags available to city residents at three locations today, June 7, 2013 until 6 p.m. Residents may pick-up sandbags at the following locations:
  • Himes Sports Complex, 4500 South Himes Avenue
  • Jackson Heights Playground, 3310 E. Lake Avenue
  • City of Tampa Solid Waste at 4010 W. Spruce Street

Tampa residents interested in receiving sandbags must show identification verifying residence within the city limits. A valid driver's license, utility bill, or electric bill will serve as appropriate identification.

Safety Precautions

The City of Tampa continues to request that residents with a storm drain on their property check to ensure that the drain is clear of debris including leaves and trash.

During any heavy rainfall or severe weather event, the City of Tampa encourages the motoring public to heed traffic advisories, obey traffic signs/detours, and to exercise caution when driving in and around standing water.
  • Do not drive through water – it is difficult to determine how deep the water is, or if the road is stable.
  • It is best to avoid driving unless necessary.
  • Treat non-functioning traffic signals as a 4-way stop.
  • If you see a road closed, please follow the detour signs.
  • Avoid any downed or hanging power lines - they may be live.
