Scream on the Green Midnight Summer Movie Series Begins Friday, June 21

Tampa, FL June 12, 2013 - Calling all cult movie fans and insomniacs, the City of Tampa and the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc. have teamed up to bring a midnight movies series to Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park this summer.

Scream on the Green begins on Friday, June 21, 2013 with horror film The Shining, starring Jack Nicholson scream on the greenand Shelley Duvall. The series will run the third Friday of each month through August 16.

“For adults, this is a great way to enjoy downtown and Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. This experience will be something new and different for Tampa, but I think everyone will have a lot of fun,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

The free movie series features popular horror films, including Dawn of the Dead, showing on July 19, 2013 and The Exorcist, showing on August 16, 2013. Scream on the Green is intended for adult audiences and due to the mature content of the films, may not be suitable for persons under the age of 18 years old.

“This is a unique way to do movies in the park,” said Kitty Lyons, executive director of the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc. “Based on our research, no other parks and recreation agency is doing midnight horror movies in the park. This is something that Tampa can call its own.”

Concessions including kettle corn, roasted nuts, lemonade, sno cones, cotton candy, etc. will be available to purchase. Wicked Witches food truck will also be on site. Low back chairs, coolers and leashed dogs are allowed. Alcohol is prohibited.
