Expedited Application Process for FTZ No. 79 Foreign Trade Zone Expanded to Include Hillsborough and Polk Counties
Tampa, FL June 27, 2013 - The Foreign-Trade Zones Board in Washington, DC has approved an application by the Grantee of Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) No. 79, the City of Tampa, to administratively restructure FTZ No. 79, expanding the service area to include both Hillsborough and Polk Counties.

Under the new Alternate Site Framework administrative procedures, companies that apply for FTZ designation can expect a greatly reduced timeframe for the combined federal and local FTZ approval process. The restructuring will allow FTZ No. 79 to be more responsive to the needs of Hillsborough County and Polk County companies that are looking to expand or establish their import/export operations.

About Foreign Trade Zone No. 79

Established in 1982 by the United States Department of Commerce, the FTZ No. 79 Program is designed to assist companies in the Tampa Bay/I-4 Corridor Region increase their import/export activity by using procedures that allow them to delay, reduce, or eliminate duty payments on foreign merchandise and by providing access to other cost saving mechanisms.

FTZ No. 79 is one of 20 FTZs in the State of Florida and part of a network of FTZs throughout the 50 states and Puerto Rico. FTZ No. 79 is administered by the Foreign-Trade Zone No. 79 Board, Inc. on behalf of the City of Tampa, who initially received federal authorization for zone activity in 1982. FTZ No. 79 Board, Inc. consists of representatives from the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, the Tampa Port Authority, the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, and the Central Florida Development Council.
