Tampa, FL September 27, 2013 - Mayor Bob Buckhorn will join community leaders to break ground on the new Fire Station #19 on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 10 a.m. The new station will be located at 7910 Interbay Boulevard.
"Public safety is paramount to the city’s well-being as a whole and the security of any neighborhood," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “The new station will ensure that the first responders serving the Port Tampa area have the tools they need to deliver the quality of services the residents deserve."
The station will replace the aging Station #19, which is currently located at 4916 W. Ingraham St. The current station was built in 1961, the same year that Port Tampa was annexed into the City of Tampa. The new station will continue to serve the Port Tampa, Gandy- Sun Bay South, and Interbay areas; Station #19 will also continue to aid the coastal areas with fireboat #19.
The new station will be an 8,660 square foot facility with a three bay apparatus garage with attached work and sleeping quarters. The design incorporates several sustainability features, including high efficiency lighting and controls, solar powered exterior lighting, energy efficient HVAC system, solar powered hot water heating, use of recycled materials, and Florida Friendly landscaping.
The new Station #19 will cost $2.5 million and is funded through the Community Investment Tax. Nelco Construction, Inc. is the contractor, and the facility is anticipated to be complete by June 2014.
In addition to the new Station #19, the City of Tampa is also replacing aging Station #11 in the Sulphur Springs area.
