SUSPECT: Jamar Silas, 10/29/1990, B/M, 438 Maple Point Drive, Seffner
CHARGES: Murder in the 2nd Degree
DETAILS: On 10/2/2013, TPD responded to a homicide that occurred at 919 West Chestnut Street. The victim was eight months pregnant and was shot in the head. Two witnesses came forward and identified Silas as the suspect who exited the home after hearing the gunshot. The suspect also exchanged text messages with an additional person stating he had messed up and that the victim was dead.

Details: The victim was shot in the head by her boyfriend, the suspect, for unknown reasons. Officers were dispatched to 919 W. Chestnut. Upon arrival they discovered the victim in the apartment with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was still alive and was noticeably pregnant. Fire rescue transported the victim to TGH where she later died. Doctors were able to save the unborn child.
During a manhunt for the known suspect, officers received an anonymous tip regarding the vehicle the suspect was in and its location. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle fled and a brief pursuit was initiated. Before the vehicle entered Robles Park, a PIT was executed on the vehicle. The vehicle was immobilized and subsequently trapped at Mayfield and Selma. Two occupants, one being the suspect, were taken into custody. There were no injuries.
At this time, the suspect is being charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Other charges are forthcoming as TPD and the SAO work together to solidify the homicide case.
