Mayor Buckhorn, Tampa Officials to Depart for Brazil Delegation leaves Saturday, October 19, 2013
 
Tampa, FL October 17, 2013 - Mayor Bob Buckhorn will lead a regional trade delegation to both Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre, Brazil next week between October 19, 2012 and October 25, 2013.

"Brazil is an emerging economic power with Latin America's most dynamic economy. It is Florida's largest export market, and the trip is an opportunity to leverage and build upon that existing relationship," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. "Tampa is a gateway to Latin America, and increasing trade with Brazil can be an economic game-changer for the region."

Brazil is the sixth largest country in the world, and the state of Florida's leading export market with nearly $15.8 in goods exported to Brazil in 2012. As the country hosts both the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympic Games, the trip to Brazil is an opportunity to expand Tampa’s relationship with an emerging economic power.

Officials representing the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, Visit Tampa Bay, Port of Tampa, Tampa International Airport, Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, University of South Florida as well as several area businesses will join Mayor Buckhorn on the trade mission.

From October 20, 2013 thru October 23, 2013, Mayor Buckhorn and the delegation will visit with local officials in Sao Paulo, Brazil. From October 23, 2013 thru the duration of the trip, Mayor Buckhorn will lead a smaller delegation to Porto Alegre, Brazil where he will sign a Sister Cities International agreement with Mayor Fortunati.
