HCSO Is Currently Searching for Two Armed Carjackers
HCSO is currently searching for two armed car carjacking suspects in a heavily wooded area north of Bruton Road and west of S.R. 39 in Plant City.
At about 12:30 pm today, a detective with the Plant City Police Department was on Bruton Road working on a unrelated investigation when he spotted two men driving a brown Honda Accord.
The detective thought the men looked suspicious so he turned around and pulled in behind them. The driver of the Honda panicked, accelerated and drove off into a small grass ditch.
Both men fled on foot from the vehicle running north into the very sparsely populated and large heavily wooded area that runs north to the Pasco County line.
The Honda Accord was confirmed stolen during an armed carjacking that occurred early this morning from a gas station in the City of Tampa while the victim was out pumping gas. Tampa Police Department can provide any further details on this incident.
Currently we have a very large perimeter set up with multiple teams of our K9 units conducting an extensive search inside the perimeter. We are also using helicopters to assist searching from overheard. This terrain runs from cow pastures, swamp marshes and large heavily wooded tracts of land.
Suspect # 1 is described as a white male, no shirt, jean shorts, multiple tattoos, bald or shaved head.
Suspect # 2 is described white male brown hair with long pony tail, black tank top, long jeans shorts.
Both men were reportedly armed during the armed carjacking incident.
They should be considered armed and dangerous, anyone who may have any information or who spots anyone matching these two men is asked to call 9-1-1.
I will send out additional updates as they become available. I'm working on trying to find a staging area and will let you know shortly.
Phone service is sporatic in this area so please keep that in mind if you call and I don't answer right away.
