Residential 2013 Water Wise Award to be Presented at Tampa City Council on November 7

Tampa, FL November 4, 2013 - Residential 2013 Water Wise Award to be Presented at
Tampa City Council on November 7

South Tampa resident, Allen Gray, will be recognized by Tampa City Council on Thursday, November 7, as the City’s Water Wise landscape winner for 2013.

Gray’s yard exhibited several elements that are positive examples of Florida-Friendly™ practices. These include the planting of drought tolerant trees and plants, purposeful and minimal turf-grass, using plants that are appropriate for his site conditions, grouping plants with similar water and maintenance needs, using alternative mulches that are environmentally-friendly, creation of a raised landscape bed that serves to retain stormwater runoff, the use of rain barrels for alternate watering and the use of pervious materials for paths, walks and other areas. Gray’s landscape thrives on rainfall, rain barrel water and, when needed, micro-irrigation.

Tampa City Council will present Gray with a commendation, and the Tampa Water Department will present him with a handcrafted stepping stone award. A link to pictures of the winning landscape and more information about the Community Water Wise Awards are available at www.TampaGov.net/CWWA.

Homeowners and businesses across the Tampa Bay area are discovering that a few simple changes can help lower utility bills, improve the health and beauty of their landscape and help to preserve Florida’s natural environment. The Community Water Wise Awards, sponsored by Tampa Bay Water and local county Extension Offices’ Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Programs, were created to recognize those who have committed to conserving our water resources and protecting the environment by using attractive Florida-friendly landscaping practices.
