Tampa’s Downtown on Ice on Thursday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m.
 
November 20, 2013 - It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Its ice skating season in downtown Tampa! Join Mayor Bob Buckhorn on Thursday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m. for the official opening of Tampa’s Downtown on Ice presented by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa’s Downtown on Ice is located at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N. Ashley Drive.

Mayor Buckhorn will be joined by representatives from the Tampa Bay Lightning for the first official skate. The opening ceremony festivities will include free skating for everyone until 7:30 p.m., a chance to win a Chick-fil-A prize pack, and a fun dance number with Mascot on Ice featuring Thunder Bug, the Chick-fil-A Cows, Raymond, T-Rec and others familiar mascots.

The rink will be open daily, except Thanksgiving until January 5, 2014. Skating is $10 for 90 minutes and includes skates.

Rink hours of operations:
Monday -Thursday: 4 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Friday: 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Sunday: Noon - 9 p.m.

About Tampa’s Downtown on Ice
Tampa’s Downtown on Ice is produced by the City of Tampa and the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc. Proceeds from the rink go toward the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc.’s Summer Scholarship Fund for at Risk Children.

• The rink is 50 x 100 ft.
• Under the rink is a sand box, covered with white plastic sheeting and a maze of tubing coils containing propylene glycol.
• A 200 ton chiller circulates the propylene glycol at about 0 degrees Fahrenheit to keep the ice rink frozen solid no matter what the weather is outside.
• Overnight temperatures inside the tent can reach as low 40 degrees.
• The ice is cleaned and prepared by a Wizard Ice Cutter.
• The rink construction and management is by Ice Rink Events (icerinkevents.com)
• The rink is made possible through the generous support of the Tampa Bay Lightning, The Tampa Tribune, News Channel 8 and Chick-Fil-A.
